Dr. R. Roy Whitney Associate Director of Administration Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility

As Associate Director of Administration at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab), Dr. Whitney oversees business services, human resources, plant engineering, the Jefferson Lab library, medical services, legal, security and several other areas. He also serves as the Chief Information Officer at Jefferson Lab.

Whitney was a member of the team that proposed Jefferson Lab and his work at the Lab stretches back to 1984. He was in the first group of six staff members to be hired at the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF). Prior to taking the reins of the Administration Department, Whitney served as the leader of the User Liaison Office for four years and managed the Computer Center for 13 years. He has also chaired many committees at Jefferson Lab and contributed to physics experiments.

Whitney's experience at federally funded laboratories spans over 35 years. He has worked at Stanford University High Energy Physics Lab, MIT-Bates, Los Alamos-LAMPF and Saclay in France.

Prior to joining Jefferson Lab, Whitney taught physics and conducted research at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Smith College, Springfield Technical Community College and the University of Virginia.
